FAQs
Do you take smashed panels?
We do accept smashed panels for recycling, however there is a small charge for this service.
Do you pay for panels?
We do not offer payment for panels. Some panels incur a disposal fee. Please refer to the schedule of fees found on our public customer page.
Can I buy from you?
No, we do not sell to the public. The Wattle Grove depot is a drop off point for WA Solar Recycling that functions as a receivables and assessment centre only.
Can I just drive by and drop off?
Yes, you can drop items to our Wattle Grove Depot during opening hours.
Be aware that if we are busy you may need to wait as we operate on a first come, first served basis.
Will you pay me for my old solar panels?
No, we do not pay members of the public for their unwanted solar.
If you are a commercial client or local council, register or contact us to see the current pricing.
How much do you charge?
See our schedule of fees and charges here.
Why do item fees vary?
Different types of panels are constructed differently and processing is not uniform. There are minimal recycling options for solar panels in Australia currently. Take thin film panels for example, at present only one facility on the East Coast can recycle these, our cost reflects this.
Is out of hours collection or drop off possible?
No, our collections occur between Monday to Friday 9.30am-3pm.
Depot hours are Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm.
Can I change or cancel a collection booking?
Yes, we require a minimum of 48 hours notice to reschedule or cancel a collection.
The best way of notifying us you’d like to change or cancel a collection is by replying to the email with all your booking details.
Do you remove old panels from my roof?
No. We offer a collection for disposal of items already uninstalled and disconnected and readily accessible.
What items do you accept?
See our list of accepted and not accepted items here.
Do you accept all e-waste?
We DO NOT accept the majority of e-waste, we specialize in PV waste processing. We will accept MOST PV related waste if it is dropped at our Wattle Grove Depot. Please see our list of accepted and not accepted items here.
The panels are still on my roof. How far in advance do I have to book?
In our experience it is best to book a collection once your items have been uninstalled, disconnected and are readily accessible for collection.
What is a commercial client?
A business with an ABN, currently in the solar industry, who will regularly be using our services to dispose of bulk quantities.
I am looking to dispose of a solar hot water system. What can I do with it?

I am looking to dispose of old car batteries. What can I do with them?
We are unable to accept wet or car batteries. We suggest contacting your local council to find out about the options in your local area.
Do you accept solar panels with paint?
Yes, we accept solar panels with paint on them. As our primary focus is re-use and recovery, and all panels are assessed by the depot team. If the paint obscures our ability to assess the panel, then we will treat the panel as damaged and disposal fees will apply.
Can I dispose of lithium batteries?
We only accept prismatic LiFePo4 type lithium batteries and cells which are commonly used for solar storage. We do not accept damaged batteries. We require pre-approval for lithium battery drop-off so please contact us before heading down to our depot to avoid disappointment. We reserve the right to turn away any loads containing unapproved lithium batteries.
What is a functional panel?
Panels will be assessed by WA Solar Staff to determine if they are functional. Panels which are damaged or obscured are not deemed functional. If a panel is intact, it does not necessarily mean it will be functional. All decisions made by staff are final.
Can I drop off bulk volumes of solar rail components?
If you have bulk volumes (Over a bath tub full) of solar rail components or short cut rail sections, we do require notification and will provide up front approval for drop off. Bulk volumes must not be contaminated with general waste or we may reject your load.
Do you sell panels or other components?
WA Solar Recycling functions as a receivables & assessment depot only and does not sell to the public.
